Our Signature Journeys: PLACES WHERE STORIES STILL LIVE

Mount Kailash 2026 Year of the Horse: A Sacred Legacy Pilgrimage with Heli Support

Mount Kailash 2026 Year of the Horse: A Sacred Legacy Pilgrimage (Overland via Kerung)

Six men stand in front of a red and white helicopter on a sunny day.

Rising in the remote Trans-Himalayan plateau of western Tibet, near the sources of four of Asia’s great rivers—the Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra, and Karnali—Mount Kailash stands as the ultimate Axis Mundi. Unlike other peaks, Kailash remains unclimbed, a silent testament to its status as the earthly throne of Mahadev and the spiritual center of the universe for billions.

The year 2026 marks the Year of the Horse, a rare celestial alignment occurring only once every twelve years. In this sacred window, tradition holds that a single circuit of the holy peak bestows the spiritual merit of thirteen regular circumambulations. This is the Mahakumbh of the Himalayas—a once-in-a-generation opportunity to fulfill a sacred legacy of Dharma and ancestral connection. Following the turquoise waters of the Karnali River Corridor—the ancient path of the Rishis and the heartland of the Khasa Malla Empire—our Adventure plus and deep travel  model ensures that multi-generational families can experience this profound spiritual reset with absolute safety, cultural depth, and elegance. This is not simply a journey; it is a return to the source.

Snow-capped mountain under a starry night sky with the Milky Way.

The year 2026 marks a rare celestial alignment. For the first time in twelve years, we enter the Year of the Horse—the sacred zodiac sign of Mount Kailash itself. Ancient wisdom dictates that one circuit (Kora) during this auspicious year earns the merit of thirteen regular circumambulations.

For the global Indian family, this "Mahakumbh of the Himalayas" offers a profound spiritual reset. Our overland journey via the Rasuwa-Kerung border is designed for those who seek to witness the dramatic transition from the lush middle hills of Nepal to the stark, celestial beauty of the Tibetan Plateau.

Pilgrimage of Tsheringma and Sacred Rolwaling (Gaurishankar) Valley

Manaslu Circuit Trek – A mindful journey around the eighth-highest mountain in the world and

Himalayan Trekking

The Rolwaling Valley Trek & Gaurishankar Pilgrimage is a remote and spiritually profound journey into one of the Himalaya’s most storied landscapes. Tucked beneath the twin peaks of Mount Gaurishankar ($7,134)—revered as Tsheringma, the Mother Goddess of Longevity—this valley is much more than a trekking destination.

Since the 8th century, Rolwaling has been recognized in sacred texts as a Beyul—a "hidden valley" or terrestrial paradise. For over a millennium, it has served as a sanctuary for meditative traditions, where practitioners have sought solitude in its high caves and glacial shadows, preserving a culture of silence and sanctity that remains palpable today.

In the 1970s, it served as a primary inspiration for the Deep Ecology movement, championed by the Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess and his colleagues.  This movement was a direct response to the commercialization of the mountains, cementing Rolwaling as a symbol of ecological integrity.

This is more than a trek—it is a pilgrimage through time, offering a rare encounter with a valley that has remained a stronghold for both ancient meditative traditions and the radical protection of the natural world.

Manaslu Circuit Trek – A mindful journey around the eighth-highest mountain in the world and

Colorful Nyingmapa monastery with prayer flags in the Himalayas under a clear blue sky.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most rewarding and soulful Himalayan journeys, circling Mt. Manaslu (8,163m), the eighth-highest mountain in the world. Remote yet culturally rich, the trail passes through ancient Tibetan-influenced villages, deep river valleys, alpine forests, and high yak grazing pastures.

The route gradually ascends toward the dramatic crossing of Larkya La Pass (5,160m), offering sweeping views of Manaslu, Himalchuli, and surrounding peaks. Each stage of the journey reveals a changing landscape shaped by glaciers, mountain winds, and centuries-old traditions.

Unlike more commercial trekking routes in Nepal, the Manaslu Circuit remains relatively untouched, offering space for slower travel, cultural depth, and mindful exploration. It is a trek best experienced with curiosity, respect, and intention—where the journey itself becomes as meaningful as the destination.

A Sacred Legacy Pilgrimage with Heli Support

About this journey

The year 2026 marks the Year of the Horse, a rare celestial alignment occurring only once every twelve years. In this sacred window, tradition holds that a single circuit of the holy peak bestows the spiritual merit of thirteen regular circumambulations. This is the Mahakumbh of the Himalayas—a once-in-a-generation summons for the global Indian family to fulfill a sacred legacy of Dharma and ancestral connection.

Historically, this landscape served as the heartland of the ancient Zhangzhung Kingdom and the later Khasa Malla Empire, the ancestral root for the majority of present-day Nepali Hindus and Buddhists. At Tailored Treks & Expeditions, we guide this passage with a "slow trekking" philosophy that transforms a grueling pilgrimage into a mindful Heli-Pilgrimage.

Following the turquoise waters of the Karnali River Corridor—the ancient path of the Rishis—our Adventure Plus model ensures that multi-generational families can experience this profound spiritual reset with absolute safety, cultural depth, and elegance. This is not simply a journey; it is a return to the source.

Mount KAILASH AND lAKE MANASAROVAR JOURNEY WITH HELI SUPPORT

A Sacred Journey across Nepal, Tibet Himalayas

(click the image above for a brief history of the Kailas and Karnali River gateway)

Rising in the remote Trans-Himalayan plateau of western Tibet, near the sources of four of Asia’s great rivers—the Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra, and Karnali—Mount Kailash stands as one of the most revered sacred landscapes on Earth. Unlike other Himalayan peaks, Kailash (6,638m) has never been climbed, out of deep respect for its spiritual status. For over two millennia, it has been described in Hindu Puranas, Buddhist tantras, Jain scriptures, and Bon cosmology as the cosmic axis—the spiritual center of the universe.

Nearby Lake Manasarovar has long been regarded as a lake of purification and awakening, its waters symbolizing clarity of mind and karmic cleansing. Historically, this region was within the ancient kingdom of Zhangzhung before becoming central to Tibetan Buddhist civilization. Today, despite its extreme altitude and remoteness, the Kailash–Manasarovar region remains one of the world’s most profound pilgrimage destinations, where geography, myth, and devotion converge in extraordinary harmony.

This is not simply a trek. It is a sacred passage—walked for centuries by traders, sages, monks, and pilgrims—connecting the rugged canyons of West Nepal and India to the celestial heights of Mount Kailash. At Treks With Purpose, we guide this journey with profound cultural depth and a comfort. Following the ancient route of the Karnali, Nepal’s longest river, we move through the historic heartlands of the Zhangzhung, Khasa and Guge kingdoms. Whether you are witnessing the ritual devotion at the Axis Mundi or engaging with the high-mountain communities of West Himalaya, this expedition is designed for those who wish to travel with intention and cultural depth.

Spiritual Significance

Mount Kailash is revered in four major traditions:

Hinduism – Abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati

Buddhism – Known as Kang Rinpoche, the Precious Jewel of Snow

Jainism – Site associated with Rishabhdev’s liberation

Bon – Sacred axis of the ancient Zhang Zhung civilization

Lake Manasarovar symbolizes purity of mind and karmic cleansing. The 52-kilometer Kora (circumambulation) is considered a profound act of spiritual merit.

Himalayan Executive Renewal

Himalayan Executive Renewal With Treks With Purpose Nepal | Tailored Treks & Expeditions

Leadership Retreats in Nepal

In the Himalayas, leadership is not discussed — it is tested, clarified, and strengthened.

Treks With Purpose Nepal designs immersive executive retreats for founders, leadership teams, and mission-driven organizations seeking strategic focus, internal alignment, and long-term thinking. These programs are built for leaders who understand that perspective does not emerge from another conference room — it emerges from stepping outside routine environments.

Nepal offers a rare combination of cultural depth, physical challenge, and environmental stillness. When teams move together along Himalayan trails, gather in mountain lodges, and engage with living traditions, hierarchy gives way to dialogue and complexity becomes easier to navigate.

This is not a leisure program.

It is structured leadership immersion.

Why the Himalayas?

Altitude changes pace.

Distance sharpens judgment.

Shared challenge builds trust.

In an era of constant connectivity, leaders rarely experience uninterrupted space to reflect. The Himalayan environment creates conditions for sustained attention, strategic recalibration, and grounded decision-making.

Modern leadership requires resilience, emotional intelligence, and long-range vision. Our retreats are designed to strengthen those capacities.

Our Approach

Since 2003, we have operated with long-term local partnerships and ethical tourism standards. Every retreat directly supports Himalayan communities through fair wages, locally owned lodges, and regional collaboration.

Purpose is integrated into operations — not layered on as messaging.

Program Design

Each retreat is custom-built around organizational objectives. Depending on your goals, programs may include:

Facilitated strategy sessions in mountain settings

Guided leadership dialogues during structured hikes

Cultural engagement with community and monastic leaders

Mindfulness and resilience practices

Team-based trekking experiences that build cooperation under shared effort

ESG-aligned field immersion experiences

We coordinate closely with internal facilitators or executive teams to ensure the environment serves the work.

Who It Serves

Executive leadership teams

Founders in growth or transition

ESG-focused organizations

Boards and advisory groups

Remote teams seeking reconnection

We manage logistics end-to-end: accommodations, permits, domestic flights, mountain support, safety protocols, and on-site coordination. Your team focuses on leadership work — we handle execution.

The Return

Participants leave with:

Sharper strategic alignment

Stronger internal trust

Broader perspective

Renewed leadership stamina

Shared experience in demanding and beautiful environments creates cohesion that cannot be replicated indoors.

Retreat Environments

Programs can be designed in:

The Kathmandu Valley

The Annapurna foothills

Humla or Dolpo for deeper immersion

Lumbini for values-based reflection

Select Mount Kailash region journeys for legacy-focused retreats

Each location supports different leadership objectives. We help you choose accordingly.
